Be a Ford Volunteer. Join us to promote "Giving and Sharing"
Detroit, MI - With the eyes of Congress, and the nation, focused on the financial plight of the U.S. auto industry, Ford salaried employees and retirees by the hundreds concentrated their attention on the plight of hungry people close to home. Some 750 Ford volunteers stepped away from the business of building cars and trucks, and stepped into local missions, shelters and food distribution centers to help feed the hungry in their local communities. “This is an important service we’re providing,” said Bill Garrett, electronic systems engineer. “I enjoy the opportunity to give something back and I think it’s great that Ford encourages us to do this work.” These are very difficult times in Michigan and much of the country. The calls for help are growing louder and MODEL Teams of Ford volunteers spread out across Metro Detroit and five other states to answer the call during an Accelerated Action Day dedicated to feeding the hungry. Members of the Ford Volunteer Corps collected food, stocked shelves, packaged food for distribution and served meals to those struggling to meet one of our most basic needs - nourishment. “The need is so great,” said Margaret Godfrey, Ford Purchasing. “We did this as a team building event about a year ago and the whole team enjoyed it. We decided to volunteer again because it’s nice to be able to help people.” The following nonprofit agencies received Giving & Sharing 2008 mini-grants:
